Summer School in Argentina

An international summer school under the title “How to meet UN sustainable development goals in Patagonia/ Argentina – Value of Patagonian forest and large scale natural landscapes for climate change mitigation” is held from 03.11 to 17.11 2019 in Argentina  at the Forestry Research and Technology Transfer Centre of the Andean Patagonia (Centro de Investigación y Extensión Forestal Andino Patagónico (CIEFAP)) and the National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco (UNPAT).

This international summer school is funded by DAAD and applicant is the University of Göttingen (GAUG), Department of Geography, Cartography, GIS & Remote Sensing represented by Prof. Dr. Martin Kappas in cooperation with University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim/Holzminden/Göttingen (HAWK), Faculty of Natural Resource Management, represented by Prof. Dr. Martin Thren.

The principal objective of this event is the promotion of university education in Germany. We intend to strengthen the position of the University of Göttingen and HAWK in the international education fields and to recruit highly qualified graduates for PhD and masters programmes in Germany. Another important goal of this international summer school is to acquire early career scientists and researchers for cooperation and networking in sustainable use of natural resources and the valuation of Patagonian nature and species. We would also like to promote nature conservation orientation in education and research. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and research-oriented modules in education will be formulated.

The sophisticated methods of GIS and remote-sensing for sustainable use of natural resources and protection of fragile ecosystems will be presented and a joint research programme should be prepared.
