Introductory Week for international students 7 – 11 October 2019
Every semester, the Incoming Office of the University of Göttingen organises an Introductory Week for international students. The week’s events include a city tour, a tour of the faculties, intercultural training and the popular programme “Introduction to Studying and Living in Göttingen”, which was conducted over two full days this year.
This informational event was kicked off with a welcome speech by the Head of the Incoming Office, Dr Philipp Jeserich, followed by various presentations at the Alte Mensa. Over 400 new international students from 67 countries took part in this event. In the evening, a festive reception was held at the Göttingen Old Town Hall, where Mayor Helmi Behbehani and Dr Uwe Muuss, Head of the International Office, welcomed the new students. Attendees mingled and enjoyed live music and refreshments in this picturesque historic building.
On the second day, staff as well as students offered presentations and workshops at the ZHG covering topics such as studying, living in Göttingen, student housing, maintaining a healthy work-life-study balance and academic writing skills, to name just a few. Some of the presentations may be found here. In the afternoon, the new students had the opportunity to get more information about the various services offered at the University of Göttingen at an information fair. Those who visited the stands and collected all stickers took part in a prize draw. The winner was awarded the prize at the International Office on Wednesday 30th October.

Thank you to all organisers of this event and a warm welcome to all new international students.
