Implementing International Learning Opportunities

International Excursions to Bosnia and Herzegovina & Chile

Experimenting with and implementing new forms of mobility was one of the goals of the DAAD liveSciences³ project. Together with international partner universities, different blended mobility scenarios were co-design and jointly implemented.

In September 2022, an international excursion in forest sciences took place in collaboration with the University of Sarajevo (UNSA), embedded in the module ´´Primeval and managed forests in Bosnia-Herzegovina`.

In November 2022, scientists and lecturers from the Faculty of Biology and Psychology and the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences offered an interdisciplinary excursion to Chile together with their counterparts at the University of Talca (UTalca) as part of the expanded collaboration. Students first participated in virtual synchronous and asynchronous preparation sessions; exchanged information on local landscapes and land use, and learned about biodiversity and sustainability related topics. They collaborated in international student teams, both virtually and on-site during the excursions, prepared educational videos or shared their experiences with their fellow students in blogs.

Students highly appreciated international learning opportunities, in particular the mix of virtual and short-term on-site learning, and enjoyed the chance to get to know students and professors from international partner and possible exchange universities.

The implementation of the virtual exchanges and organization of the excursions also strengthen the international academic collaboration across the liveSciences³ partner universities. New project ideas emerged along. We are looking forward to continuing the great collaboration and more exciting international learning opportunities!
