Guided Tours with the Welcome Centre

The Welcome Centre of the University of Göttingen not only supports researchers in all matters to settle in Göttingen, but also organizes monthly guided tours enabling international researchers to visit special places in the city and to mingle with their international fellows.

Some of the guided tours last year have been to the Town Cemetery, where the graves of many famous characters – e.g. eight Nobel Prize Winners – can be found, the salt mine “Saline Luisenhall”, and the special themed tour on Göttingen’s unexpectedly idyllic oasis of tranquility: gardens, green spaces and courtyards in the old town. Another special place, recently visited, is a place of living history of science: the Wiechert earthquake station in Göttingen, which is the first and oldest in the world.

Heidi Hopf, Advisor for International Researchers at the Welcome Center, organizes the tours and receives excellent feedback from the international researchers, thus encouraging the Welcome Centre team to organize further cultural and integration activities.
