Nature Conservation in Science and Practice
The University of Göttingen continues the Bi-National Master’s Programme “International Nature Conservation”
Those interested in deepening their knowledge of nature conservation and at the same time gaining practical experience can now apply for the master’s programme “International Nature Conservation” (MINC), which will start again in the coming winter semester after a two-year hiatus. The bi-national programme is offered by the Universities of Göttingen and Lincoln (New Zealand). It consists of one study semester per university, one internship semester and the master thesis. The programme is aimed at bachelor graduates in biology, agricultural and forestry sciences and related subjects. The application period runs from 1 April to 15 May 2019.
“The programme not only offers comprehensive training for entry into practical nature conservation work, but also teaches scientific basics, including important methodological knowledge and approaches,” says Prof. Dr. Matthias Waltert, Nature Conservation Biologist at the University of Göttingen and head of the programme. “Through insights into the differentiated nature conservation requirements in different geographical regions, the view is sharpened for connections of natural, social, political and economic factors for the success of nature conservation measures.”
The internship and the topic of the master’s thesis can be freely chosen by the students to a large extent and thus specialise in preparation for their future profession. In the past, different subject areas were promoted, such as studies on the containment of poaching, the prioritisation of protected areas or species protection. Particular attention is paid to the monitoring of habitats and endangered animal populations for a tailor-made, evidence-based nature conservation management. Information on the study programme can be found here.
