Career Support in Times of Crisis

Job seekers these days are left with even more uncertainty facing an unstable job market and changing application conditions. The COVID-19 crisis requires graduates and students to prepare even earlier and be more focused for their employment search. The University’s Career Service supports German and international students in this unusual winter term with job and internship orientation, application writing and preparing for self-presentation situations with a wide range of virtual offerings (most of them available in English language).

One offer to highlight is the “Building International Careers” programme that covers all steps of the application process over one semester: career orientation, effective job search, application documents and interview preparation for the international job market or for international students in Germany. It started on 24 November with an online kick-off workshop bringing together 46 students out of 9 faculties and from 21 different countries. They shared their personal and professional goals, practised the STAR technique, an interview response method, and got to know the peer groups they will be working with for the next four months. The monthly peer group sessions with up to five students are accompanied by online career modules with self-assessments and group exercises as well as subject-specific online events. The targeted outcome of the modules depends on the topic and varies from a first career action plan to an individual written skill set to a personalised CV and cover letter in English or German. At the end, the participants of the programme will be eligible to receive the “International Certificate” (InDiGU).

Besides this programme, here is a selection of upcoming Career Events:
