Development and Internationalisation of the Higher Education of the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan
For several years, the University of Göttingen has been cooperating with universities in the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan in Northern Iraq. The Ministry of Education has set up a liaison office at the Kurdistan Institution for Strategic Studies and Scientific Research (KISSR) to coordinate the activities with Göttingen. The project “Transfer of Good Practices and Reinforcement of Internationalization Strategies in Kurdistan – TIGRIS” has been funded within the framework of the EU Erasmus+ Capacity Building program in Higher Education and aims at the further development and internationalization of the higher education sector. The EU will support it over the next 3 years with 956,000 €.
Among other things, international offices at the universities are to be established or expanded in order to facilitate international cooperation in teaching and research. Partners at the European level are the universities of Groningen (Netherlands), KU Leuven (Belgium), Masaryk (Czech Republic) and the Center for Higher Education Development CHE. In addition to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, are also involved from Northern Iraq the Kurdistan Institution for Strategic Studies and Scientific Research KISSR, as well as the following colleges: University of Sulaimani, Sulaimani Polytechnic University, University of Raparin, University of Halabja, Charmo University, Duhok Polytechnic University, Erbil Polytechnic University, Salahaddin University.
