International Conference-cum-Workshop on Contemporary Populism in Germany and India: Issues and Perspectives, 15 – 16 November 2021
The two-day virtual conference on “International Conference-cum-Workshop on Contemporary Populism in Germany and India: Issues and Perspectives” was organized by the University of Göttingen together with the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) from 15 – 16 November 2021, with an inaugural session where Dr. Uwe Muuss on behalf of the University of Göttingen and Ms. Aadishree Jamkhedkar from the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) welcomed the participants. The conference was hosted by Prof. Dr. Simon Fink (UGOE) and Prof. Dr. Shruti Tambe (SPPU) and coordinated by the Göttingen India Office. The event was funded and supported by DWIH, New Delhi.
The conference focused on three fundamental issues, namely: Populism in Politics; Populism in Media; and Populism in Society. There were parallel sessions conducted on Day 1 for Populism in Media and Populism in Politics. The special feature of the conference was the workshop for young scholars on the same topic on the second day, where 10 research students presented their research papers. The event was conducted by Prof. Dr. Shruti Tambe and Prof. Dr. Simon Fink in a parallel session, where expert views and comments of the papers were given by them.
There were 78 participants and 16 panelists who took part in the conference and 10 selected young scholars from various universities in India for the 2nd day workshop.
