A Visit from the Gulistan University (Uzbekistan)
As part of a two-month stay (staff mobility) Prof. Khabibjon Kushiev from Gulistan University (Uzbekistan) followed the invitation of Prof. Martin Kappas (Department of Geography) at the Department of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing to discuss cooperation in the field of climate change and sustainable land use. The impact of climate change in Central Asia as well as topics of sustainable land use in drylands have been a focus of the department for GIS & Remote Sensing (esp. Kazakhstan and Mongolia) for more than 15 years. On 8 June 2016 an extended meeting was held under the invitation of representatives of the Embassy of Uzbekistan. Representatives of Int. Offices of the University of Göttingen, the Embassy of Uzbekistan and members of other faculties (Geography, Agriculture and Forestry) discussed a future cooperation in the field of sustainable land use and water research. The department of GIS and remote sensing will prepare another workshop at Gulistan University in 2017.
