Göttingen University Welcomes Three DAAD P.R.I.M.E. Fellows in 2018

Last year´s selection round of the „Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience“ (P.R.I.M.E.) fellows by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) showed once again that the University of Göttingen is an attractive location for outstanding scientists from all over the world.

In 2017, there were 294 applications, of which 25 were selected for funding. The University of Göttingen is delighted to welcome three outstanding P.R.I.M.E. fellows in Göttingen this year. The prominent postdoctoral funding follows the motto “salary instead of scholarship” and includes a postdoctoral position (TV-L 13) at a German host institution for one and a half years and a supplement for the integrated 12-month research period at the foreign host institution, as well as travel expenses. The thematic scope of their P.R.I.M.E. projects could not be more varied:

The research project of Dr. Jurrit Daalder, which he will realise at the Department of English Philology, North American Studies and in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Andrew Gross, is titled: “First Person: Authorial Voice and the Personal Essay”. During his one-year stay abroad, he will conduct research at the Columbia University in New York City, USA.

Trust-based relationships of children are in the focus of Dr. Jan Engelmann’s P.R.I.M.E. research project (“The role of friendship in cooperation: A comparative and cross-cultural developmental approach”) which he will conduct in cooperation with the Georg-Elias-Müller Institute for Psychology, the Department of Cognitive Developmental Psychology headed by Prof. Hannes Rakoczy. He will spend his one-year research period abroad at Yale University in New Haven, USA.

The research interests of Dr. Vincent Theeuwes are in the field of theoretical particle physics. The topic of his P.R.I.M.E. research project is entitled: “Improving Strong Coupling Fits Through use of Jet Substructure Techniques”. He will conduct his research with support of Prof. Steffen Schumann at the Institute for Theoretical Physics, as well as in collaboration with CEA (Commissariat à l’énergie atomique) Saclay in Paris, France.

Applications for the attractive postdoctoral funding are also possible in 2018. This year’s call is supposed to be published in June 2018. The latest information is available on the DAAD homepage. In addition, the DAAD funding advisory at Göttingen International would be happy to assist you with any questions regarding this or other DAAD funding schemes, current calls, and during the application process.
