70 Years International Office: „Spreading the Göttingen Spirit“
On November 8th 2017, the International Office of the University of Göttingen celebrated 70 years since its new foundation.
On November 8th 1947, the senate of the university approved the re-establishment of the International Office. What began as a small office back in 1947, is now a department with almost 50 people. The International Office works closely with faculties and institutes, coordinating international relations of the University of Göttingen with universities on all continents.
Representatives of universities from various countries attended the event. During the celebration, various milestones and anecdotes of Göttingen International were recalled by members of the University, students, alumni, and international guests.
The event was accompanied by musical performances by students, including the newly formed choir „Erasmus“, and traditional Indonesian dances performed by students from this country.
As part of the celebration, on November 9th, the Workshop on Internationalisation of the Curriculum was held. The workshop focused on the role and challenges of international classrooms, both on campus and in virtual classrooms. Distinguished scholars and researchers of the area, including em. Prof. Elspeth Jones (Leeds Beckett University), Dr. Jos Beelen (Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences), and em. Prof. Betty Leask (La Trobe University) shared their experience giving way to an enriching discussion.
