Coordinator for the Development of a Sustainability Concept
Marco Lange has been appointed to serve as Coordinator for the development of a sustainability concept for the University of Göttingen, beginning May 1, 2017. Lange also serves as coordinator of the U4 network, which is affiliated to the department Göttingen International.
The newly established coordinator’s post is also embedded in the department Göttingen International, thus allowing for a multiplicity of synergetic effects. Many of Göttingen’s international partners have already established successful “Green Offices” or “Centers for Sustainable Development”. By working together closely with its excellent partner universities, the University of Göttingen will be able to build upon proven experiences with developing sustainability strategies. On top of that, many common activities will be carried out together with international partners over the course of the next years. This will help creating long-term benefits for the University of Göttingen and its partners.
The University of Göttingen will develop a sustainability strategy that complies with the university’s overall strategy. It will be integrated into all aspects of university life, including management, business operation, research and teaching, as well as our student and university community. In doing so, University of Göttingen will meet its social responsibility for a sustainable future.
Marco Lange’s range of experience includes numerous projects regarding topics of sustainability, such as the management of the climate protection program “Stop Climate Change”, the coordination of the project “Climate Friendly Means of Production in Latin America” (carried out in cooperation with “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit” (GIZ)) and the dissemination of the EU project „BENWOOD Short Rotation Forestry and Agroforestry in CDM Countries and Europe“ in Brasil, China, the UK, India and Kenia. Marco Lange has obtained his MA degree from the University of Göttingen in 2007, majoring in Agricultural Science. The focus of his studies was on Environment and Resource Management.
