Humboldt Fellow – Regional forest policy in Africa

Symphorien Ongolo_passport-sized photo_v2The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation awarded Dr. Symphorien Ongolo Assogoma, as guest researcher, along with Dr. Lukas Giessen and Prof. Max Krott, as supervising and host scientists based at the Department of Forest and Nature Conservation Policy, a two-year postdoc scholarship. Within the young researchers group “International Forest Policy” Dr. Ongolo will identify, analyse, and compare regional policy initiatives on the protection and use of forests in sub-Saharan Africa, based on institutional as well as actor-specific variables. This project is part of a bigger research programme on the links between global and regional forest and environmental policy initiatives, which was launched in 2012 by Dr. Giessen as the leader of the group. The team expects detailed findings on the institutional realities of regional forest policies in sub-Saharan Africa as well as the motivations of key actors therein.
